For 2026 the IOPD is considering the recent changes in ACU regulations to permit children to compete on certain automatic bikes from their 5th birthday.
Organisers are advised to ensure riders can show adequate control and knowledge of handling such a machine through experience on a specially constructed pay and play track and whilst under adult supervision.
ACU 50cc Automatic Class Regulations for 2026:
Organisers are advised to ensure that their insurance and professional medical cover are aware the ages of the riders participating. Medics should also be aware of CTE (chronic traumatic encephalopathy) should a child suffer a collision and display symptoms of concussion or conclusively if knocked out. Anyone suffering concussion or whose balance is impaired must not ride again that day and seek medical attention. The medic’s view is final.
